Jennifer Saxell music

DAISY ROULETTE (Egna Händer -EH 0701)
‘Daisy Roulette…a tastefully produced, intimate album one can listen to for the individual players’ contributions alone. But one can listen – and smile – even more so to Jennifer’s songs, with themes running from happy-in-love to treacherously murderous. And her expressive vocals…clear and understated, timid without becoming overly sentimental. Of course it doesn’t hurt that [her] sense of melody, on tracks like All In Your Head or Shine the Sun for example, could send any radio producer over the moon…’

...Jennifer Saxell has - a voice like mother-of-pearl: clear and expressive, simultaneously strong and vulnerable. She writes and sings with a complete woman's entire voice. Her lyrics are written from a feminine perspective- full of love and longing - ill-tempered and angry - to melodies so immediate that if artists such as Dolly Parton or Emmylou Harris were to record the title track and 'You'll Remember Me' Jennifer Saxell would be set for life...'
‘...Just as good as I thought – yes, knew – it would be....As a songwriter/lyricist she ranks high in the highest of classes, as a vocalist... world class, no less...’ Bengt Eriksson

‘..Jennifer Saxell has created her own style – somewhere between cocky neo-country, charming pop and slowburning soul – and applied it to finely crafted songs with a voice that is proud, sensual and saturated with intimacy...'
Lennart Persson

...After the intermission Jennifer Saxell provided the musical high point of the evening. Amidst the other charming, down-home offerings Jennifers material provided a much needed poetic and musical excitement. Like a fusion between Sophie Zelmani och Laleh, Jennifer effectively wove brittleness and beauty with a dramatic nerve that left one wanting for more...

Finally…..Jennifer Saxell! Last night Canada and Ystad’s Jennifer Saxell presented and performed songs from her upcoming album. The venue was Krukmakaren’s (The Potter’s) little back courtyard in Ystad, with room for about 80 people. Sold out…standing room only…of course.

As she said from the stage last night, Jennifer doesn’t consider herself a country singer. But it is there her musicality combines with American folk, rock, pop (and a hint of jazz). Her songs have few and simple but well placed chords making them original and personal, totally her own. She performs them with a voice that must be the best in Sweden (perhaps in her native country as well).
’Daisy Roulette’, the title cut from the upcoming album and ’You’ll Remember Me’ a worldly gospel with her husband Michael on Fender Rhodes were the absolute high points of the intimate concert.
Now we can only hope that Jennifer hurries into the studio in Onnekop and finishes this album of her own material (which one of Rootsy’s journalists has been nagging her to do for over ten years now!)

A beautiful night for the soul…’
One of the great things about this job is that once in a while I get to discover something new that makes me feel good right down to my soul. I’ve never heard Jennifer Saxell sing, Thursday night was the first time, and I was pleasantly surprised.
... She performed her own songs, (with a couple of exceptions) soon to be released on her upcoming album ’Daisy Roulette’.
Above all it is her lyrics that capture the listener...artful commentaries on all sides of life….she sings about suicide and about how a woman might murder an unbearable husband as well as how wonderful true love and falling in love are…with urgency and conviction…but also with much warmth and humour....
...Her encore song performance of ’Goodnight Irene’ gave goosebumps and brought tears to the eyes.
What a wonderful evening!
